How things have changed. Seven wins in nine games have transformed our season and the mood around the old ground was quite different late on Saturday afternoon. Remarkably, the consensus was that we should have taken more goals off Hearts - a team that had thumped us 6-0 at the last meeting.
The rough Hearts' boy was booked!
It was pleasing to see that the players were up for the game, there was no hint of thoughts drifting to close season pleasures. There was also a fine competent debut for Craig Samson after almost a full season as support and understudy to Connor Ripley. He did his chance of a contract extension no harm as he helped his defenders to a clean sheet.
Ainsworth showed once again that he has a powerful and accurate shooting ability. Pair that with his pace and it is clear why the manager hopes that he can flourish next season.
There are four games remaining, Aberdeen (a), St Johnstone (h), Ross County (a) and Celtic (a) we remain on track to hold our fourth place. But before the next step in that challenge we have the distraction of the Youth Cup final at Hampden on Wednesday.
Motherwell have yet to win this trophy (best was a runner-up in 1987) so let's get to the National Stadium in midweek.
