Jack Leitch was given his first 90 minute game and Craig Reid, a member of the squad for just over a week, made his home debut. An early hamstring injury to Francis-Angol gave an unscheduled chance to Euan Murray and later, with the game safe, Chris Cadden was given a taste of first team action. All gave a good account.
The more senior members of the team stepped up their contributions following the disappointments of the previous two outings. McFadden and Ainsworth added flair to Sutton's tireless efforts and Vigurs demonstrated again why McCall signed him. The central defensive pair snuffed out all but one goal threat and Lasley took care of his own job while keeping an eye on his young partner. It was a good day.
This squad has shown an ability to recover from the occasional period of faltering form before it develops into a slump and they deserve to be at the top end of the table. The remarkable record against teams in the lower half of the table continues. There are four more games of that type left starting with Hibs next week.
While many of the players will welcome the lack of any midweek game and work under the physio’s guidance, the manager will pack his bags and join the Scotland squad as he assists in preparations for Wednesday’s friendly in Warsaw.
On Monday, the Well Society is hosting another Sign Up night in Fir Park’s Centenary Suite from 6pm. The alteration to its membership system means that fans can join or upgrade from £10 a month. The ability to join with other supporters to become owners of the club without needing to find a substantial joining fee up front should open the doors to many.
