It was clear from the kick off that we were second favourites against Hearts. We were on the back foot from the first whistle and it was an unexpected bonus to be at the interval on level terms. To their credit, given the politics behind the scenes, the Gorgie masses got behind the players in maroon and their vocal support must have felt like they had a twelfth man on the park.

After eighteen games we have eighteen points. That's a poor haul compared to the last three seasons. At this stage in 2005/6 we had twenty three points (7th), in 2004/5 we had twenty nine (5th) and in 2003/4 we had 21 (6th).
Still, it was said towards the end of recent seasons that mid table mediocrity makes for dull football. There's nothing like a relegation dogfight to get set the nerves on edge. Tense battles in mid-winter mud-baths do not produce quality football but they can deliver excitement and entertainment.
As Delia Smith said to her Norwich fans – “Where are you?” Let's see if the
