Hamilton - 24h and it feels no better

The manager pointed out that Hamilton were hungrier, had more desire and more confidence.  They were first to the ball and showed a spirit that was missing from our players.  We were "outdesired", outrun and couldn't pass the ball.  We lost too many battles and conceded silly goals from schoolboy errors.  His summary amounted to the most damning criticism and his thoughts should sting the ears of the players.

The match sponsors could easily have chosen not to nominate a Motherwell man of the match but the depth of our wretchedness was made clear when it was awarded to the goalkeeper who conceded four!

Lasley, Vigurs and O'Brien were left out because of injuries and McManus had to be withdrawn at the interval.  As a result we had the curious sight of McHugh, Erwin and Ojamaa up front – a combination that is unlikely to be seen again.  They gave McGovern an easy time in the Hamilton goal.  Our midfield could not cope with the pace shown by the opposition and the less said of our defending the better.

We have a week to prepare for the game a Firhill.  On our last visit Lasley, Francis-Angol, McFadden, Ainsworth and Sutton all scored to deliver a 5-1 victory.  At that time we were in the middle of what developed into a winning run of six in a row.  How things have changed.

The management team have had some spectacular success in the league in the last few years as the team kept delivering positive results.  They now face a stiff test as they have to cope with a bunch of players struggling to find form.  It’s in situations like this that we discover the true worth of a good manager.
