Hamilton: 24h on

The team was positive and confident and after a fairly even first half the gates opened with Ainsworth's fine strike.  The manager took particular pleasure in the second goal.  It was another well taken finish but the winger had to be in position at the back post to take advantage of the cross, a coaching point that delivered its dividend.

The inclusion of Ainsworth, who had been a regular on the bench in the last half dozen games, came with a spectacular reward and his man of the match award was an obvious choice.  Sutton could not do more to press his case for selection than to score a couple with his first two touches.

The goal scorers attracted the headlines but the contribution of the rest of the team was vital.  There was no shortage of effort and everyone (bar the 459 Hamilton fans) left the ground happy.

It may be that we have to keep a check on the level expectation that recent matches have raised.  Seven points from the last four outings is a respectable return and if we can maintain that rate of return for the rest of the season we should avoid the trauma of a play-off.

The atmosphere at the ground was good and reinforces the view that Friday night football between teams that are within easy travelling distance could be a valuable addition to our game.  Surely our clubs have enough consideration for their loyal travelling fans to put pressure on BT Sports to ensure that 300 mile round trips on a workday are avoided.
