Hamilton: 24h on

From the first whistle it was clear that we would have to withstand a highly energised onslaught from a home team determined to drive to our goal at every opportunity.  In the opening minutes there were worrying signs clearly on show.  We had to cope with two corners and a follow up crossed ball with our players in position to clear the danger.  In each case it was a Hamilton player who rose above the pack to direct the ball.  Everyone in the stadium knew from those opening moments that we would struggle.

Gloom and doom at NDP

Every time we managed to gain possession the opposition were quick to challenge.  Too often our response was the nervous and hopeful clearance that guaranteed another wave of attack.  By half time most observers sensed that a heavy loss was on the cards.  Some hoped that an incompetent electrician might cause a second floodlight pylon to fail.  We were already clutching at straws.

While the manager has limited room for manoeuvre given the current injury list and small squad, most of the responsibility for the fiasco has to be taken by the players.  Some serious self evaluation needs to be done before the Aberdeen game.

Cadden and Thomas were the only two singled out for their willingness to get involved in the game and there’s every possibility that we’ll see more of them, possibly starting on Sunday.

The transfer window is now open and with it an opportunity to introduce some new blood.  No doubt Baraclough’s database of players will be receiving close attention as he seeks to produce one or two gems.

Results elsewhere gave us some relief and underline the crucial importance of the recent points taken against Ross County, St Mirren and Partick Thistle.  Our battle is against our fellow strugglers and so long as we keep a couple below us we’ll survive.
