As part of the outreach to those members of the Lanarkshire public who don’t follow every MFC related tweet or make daily checks on the Motherwell official and unofficial websites the club has produced an eight page tabloid newspaper.
The hope is that it will be distributed far and wide – libraries, pubs, coffee shops and so on. It’s a great idea and an ideal way to spread the word that the club can be a focal point in the community. The first of what is promised to be a free quarterly publication gives prime focus to the establishment of the Well Society as the end of March deadline approaches. This edition is sponsored by the See Me organisation that focuses on fighting the stigma and discrimination that is associated with mental health.
One of the interesting snippets in Issue 1 is the planned introduction of a new style of advertising that will appear at Fir Park next season. The floodlight towers will be graced by a huge image of a ‘Well legend along with a sponsor’s logo. No doubt the club would be keen to hear from prospective advertisers!
A second Society Sign Up evening is planned for Tuesday 27 March. It is hoped that this will seal the £250k target that has been set as an initial fund to ensure that the club can make the transition to eventual fan ownership.
In addition to some nibbles and a bar, players and board members will be on hand to answer questions. A bonus for youngsters is that Junior Steel members will get a chance to have a kick about on the pitch. That’s a treat that many of the senior members will envy!
In other news, Kilmarnock have reduced gate prices for Saturday’s SPL match. The cost will be £15 for adults, £10 for over 65s, under 18s and full time students and £5 for under 16s. This sensible and welcome move will ensure that a bumper travelling support makes the journey down to Rugby Park to cheer the team on in the hunt for a Champions League place (did I really write that!!).
