The game was hardly a great advert for the SPL. The pitch was not in good condition (not that we are in any position to complain with the troubles at Fir Park over the years) and that contributed the poor control and misplaced passing that soon became evident.
We were fortunate to be level at the break. Had Dunfermline been more effective with their goal scoring opportunities they would have been ahead – though if that were the case they would not be at the bottom of the league.
'Well players warm down under the rainbow
There was a distinct change in the second half and that was due to McCall’s decision to switch Daley for Humphrey. After the match the manager admitted that “it could only get better in the second half”. He acknowledged that Daley was not at his best but praised Humphrey for being able to come on and change the game. Harsh words were spoken at the half time team talk.
Neither manager nor players would be drawn on questions relating to the runners up position or a Champions League place. Everyone pointed out that the next game would be an important cup tie against Aberdeen. It’s clear that heads are not being turned by the possible prizes that might lie ahead and that everyone is concentrating on the next game.
We are now only three points behind Rangers and with their self inflicted problems causing points to be dropped we must harbour hopes of catching them regardless of what official view comes from the dressing room. Still, there’s cup business to come first and a win next week will have us back at Hampden.
