Everyone would have agreed at the start of the season that making the top six would be a wonderful achievement. We have done that with room to spare and yet, despite the fact we still have a realistic chance of third, some people are unhappy. We certainly do seem to have hit the rocks but there are a number of factors, not all of them our fault, for the decline. However, rather than acknowledge that everyone makes mistakes and appreciate thatwe are still doing well, some fans seem to take it as a personal affront that we haven't already looked out the passports and packed our bags for Europe.

It is possible that for fans used to bobbing along in mid-table obscurity, coming up just short is the worst outcome to a season. After all, if we had a great chance this term but blew it, how long will we have to wait until there is really something to celebrate?

We have a home game against Hibs next week and the recent defeat at Easter Road will be fresh in the players' minds. We lost to the only goal in what was a fairly even match. The return of Captain Quinn after a two game suspension and home advantage might be enough to give us the edge.

Mark McGhee indicated after Saturday's game that we might have to take a different approach to games. We will have to learn how not to lose games! There was no mention of the free flowing attacking style which has been our trademark this season. It would be a pity if we were to revert to the style which typified the Malpas era. Let's get our rewards by playing entertaining football!
