Dundee disaster -24h on

Oh dear!  This habit of waking up after a Motherwell game with the realisation that we shipped a barrowload of goals has to stop.  Will we win again this season?

Grim faces

February 2017 must be recorded in Motherwell FC history as one of the worst months.  Losses to Hearts (3-0), Aberdeen (7-2), Celtic (2-0) and Dundee (5-1) paint a picture of a team heading down.  In the four fixtures we managed to concede 17 (SEVENTEEN!) goals.  No wonder there are growing calls for the manager’s head.

It’s true that we were forced to field a patched up defence on Saturday but our regulars (Tait, McManus, Heneghan and Hammell) were involved in the debacle at Pittodrie.  There’s more to our problems than a shaky back line.

Motherwell had almost half the possession against Dundee yet our movement of the ball from midfield to the front yielded only a couple of attempts on Bain’s goal.  In the second half his biggest worry came when O’Dea’s clearance struck the post.

It will take a lot of positive thinking for our travelling support to give enthusiastic cheer to the team at Rugby Park next week and it will take more than that to lift the players.  The sad sight of the ashen faced coaching trio watching their charges fall apart on Saturday suggests that are not brimming with confidence.

The manager ended his post-match comments to the BBC saying “until somebody tells me something different I’ll be here on Monday (to work in improvements) along with Steve Robinson and Faddy”.
