Dingwall next for Motherwell

Next up for Motherwell is a Betfred Cup tie away to Ross County.  With a place in the quarter finals up for grabs a close contest can be expected.

The teams had contrasting outcomes in the weekend’s league fixtures.  County took the points at Dens Park while Motherwell lost to Rangers.  In each case the away team won 2-1.

Jim McIntyre was delighted that two of his midfielders found the net.  Lindsay and Routis got the goals either side of the break to earn a rare win on the first day of the league season.

Our hosts have had a clear out over the summer and notably moved Boyce, their top scorer, to Wigan.  They also parted company with captain Paul Quinn, a familiar face to Well fans.  Another ex-Motherwell player, Jim O’Brien, signed a two year deal with them after his six month spell at the end of the last season.

Motherwell were under severe pressure in the opening quarter of the game against Rangers but they reached the halfway point with the game level.  A needless penalty conceded the lead but the game was lost as two late chances ended with the ball striking each post.  A frustrated Stephen Robinson bemoaned the misses as he turned his thoughts to Wednesday’s game.

Bigirimana played in the group stage of the competition but was missing from Sunday’s team sheet his return would be welcome.  Moult is still some way behind his team-mates in building to full sharpness but as the game time minutes build he will offer a bigger threat.

Gate prices for this match are £15 for adults and £10 for concessions (65+ and 18-).  Stephen Finnie has been appointed as referee.

An away tie against top league opposition is a tough break.  It may be that this one could go the distance with a 1-1 stalemate after 90 minutes.  After that...who knows?
