The club were in the position of having the tempting option of maximising revenue by moving Cooper Stand patrons to the East or Main Stands. This would have allowed another section of the ground to be properly segregated and filled with Celtic fans.
However, it would have meant inconveniencing the regulars in that part of the ground. To this end, the club made the commendable decision to leave the choice in the hands of the fans. Hundreds of letters were sent out with a voting form attached and democracy was allowed to take its course.
Now that decision is known. It is the clearly held view of the majority that the Cooper should still be kept for Motherwell supporters. It is now important that the club not only listens to this view but does everything in its power to ensure the safety of everyone a week on Sunday. The Celtic supporters gained a reputation for being sore and bitter losers the last time they lost the league on the last day and the club must implement plans to stop away fans getting tickets in our end. If that means we lose out on a few ticket sales then so be it.
The club did the right thing in consulting the fans but there is still room for improvement. Some season ticket holders missed out on voting forms and we could have done with out the ill disguised emotional blackmail surrounding the impact of any extra money on Scott McDonald’s contract.
Now that this has been decided, it’s time to focus on the team again. We still have two games left of what has been another successful season. Could things get even better yet?
