In making the announcement (adults £15, concessions £10, juveniles £5), Leeann Dempster said, " “We have been fortunate enough to have been selected for live television coverage and the financial benefits that come along with that. As a club, we have always tried to ensure Cup games are as affordable as possible and this year is no different."
There's no doubt that without a reduction from the normal, ludicrous pricing that applies to SPL fixtures the crowd would have taken a big dip given that the game is to be broadcast on $ky. In addition, season tickets are not valid for this one so many of the regulars would have opted for the comfort of the pub/armchair had full prices applied.
Of course, the logic behind reducing prices for televised games applies whatever the competition and we can only hope that the principle spreads to SPL games in the future! The spectacle is devalued for TV companies if they have to expose vast areas of uninhabited seating - why not have half price entry for any live game? Maybe the SPL might consider that when the Friday Night Football experiment has ended.
Season ticket holders will be able to reserve their seats by buying tickets until Monday 5 March. Others may choose to pre-purchase to avoid cash gates on the day.
