Marc Fitzpatrick has been given a chance to impress the new management team and he has agreed a contract extension that will keep him at Fir Park until Christmas. Last season was ruined for the midfielder with a hip injury followed by a hamstring tear and he was restricted to only three appearances.
Craig Brown let it be known that he has made offers to two current SPL players, both now free agents. They will consider other offers and in the meantime the manager will keep searching as he tries to build a team for the new season.
Robert McHugh and Steven Saunders can start their summer break now that the Scottish U19 team has finished their mini group. The team lost to hosts Croatia last Monday and will take no further part in the UEFA tournament.
The only Motherwell player still hard at work is Stephen Craigan. He is on duty with Northern Ireland and lead them to a 2-0 loss to Turkey in Connecticut. He’s getting plenty of sun though – the temperature during that game almost reached 40°C! His last game of a season that started on 2 July 2009 will be tomorrow (Sunday) when he leads his country to face World Cup competitors. By the time the Northern Ireland squad arrives back in the UK on Tuesday, the players will have been on a six-flight, 16,000-plus mile round trip taking in New York, Connecticut, Santiago, Concepcion and Madrid.
