Hard work has been the key to our season, particular in our victories against Rangers and Celtic. If we are to have any chance at all this time, we must continue to chase them all over the pitch and give them as little time as possible in the midfield.
One major obstacle we’ll need to overcome is the absence of James McFadden. We proved against Hibs that we can win without him but it will be a different matter taking on Celtic. In the September game, it was Faddy’s creativity which turned a solid working performance into a sensational glory evening. Clarkson has shown some flashes but it is unlikely he will be able to take over this role against a tough Celtic defence.
However, we may receive a boost with the return of Dirk Lehmann. Against Balde, his height and strength will help hold the ball up and give the defence a rest. It is likely Sutton and Hartson will play at some point and Dirk’s height will also prove useful in our own box.
Scott Leitch is likely to be missing with an injured knee, presumable leaving the way open for Shaun Fagan to start. Derek Adams suspension will not start until the Hearts game in March so he is available for selection.
Celtic have their own injury problems with Henrik Larsson missing with a fractured jaw. Shaun Maloney has stepped in for him and has struck some incredible free kicks in recent matches.
The visitors might also benefit from the early kick off time. They’ll be aware that posting an early three points will heap the pressure on Rangers later in the afternoon.
Will we be able to repeat the miracle from earlier in the season? In all reality, probably not. Celtic are still light years ahead of provincial teams like ourselves and the chances of doing them twice in a year are remote. We will battle hard but we won’t manage to gain any points from a 0-2 loss.
Remember the last time Celtic were at Fir Park?
