Celtic - 24h on

Celtic handed us a bit of a lesson and highlighted a major weakness with our back line.  The first goal came following a well judged ball over the head of Hutchinson and the pace of Commons did the rest.  There were several occasions when similar tactics caused us some embarrassment and no doubt these will be a topic on the training ground in the week ahead.

Fate did not deal Cummins much luck.  He was in the correct position to defend Brown's pacy low drive across the six yard line and, on another day, the ball would have passed on the safe side of the post.  The red card he was awarded at the other end of the pitch ended any faint hope of an unlikely comeback and set up a tense half hour of desperate defending.

Results elsewhere did us a favour and demonstrate how little there is between most of the teams.  Those who argued that the loss of Rangers to the SPL would lead to more intense competition for the upper reaches of the league seem to be right.

The unusual combination of a 3pm Saturday kick off together with no live television produced a bumper gate of 10,496 and that will boost the bank balance.  In an interview with the BBC before the match Leeann Dempster pointed out that our attendances are on a slow upward climb and that figure will make a sizeable contribution to this season's average.

We have a chance to get back on the rails next week when Dundee United visit.  The Tannadice outfit have been struggling of late and if we are to regain our early season momentum then we need to make the best of this opportunity.  A big home support will be appreciated.
