It is a mark of the success that has arrived this season that many felt a win over Celtic was a reasonable expectation for this weekend’s game. There is no doubt that for long spells we were the better team but in the end (particularly the final fifteen minutes) we fell short.
The match statistics reveal that we had only two shots on target despite having the bigger share of possession. Games are not won with that level of return. On the other hand there was a distinct improvement over the showing that we made in Inverness. That fact that we won that game merely demonstrates what a crazy sport we follow.
Noon kick off on a Sunday....not a good idea!
The manager was quick to compliment the players- “I’ve got nothing but pride and positives to take from today’s game,” he said. “There was nothing in it. Today I didn’t think we got what we deserved – I’ve got to be honest. I thought it was a terrific game, but we merited a point.
I really couldn’t ask any more from my players. There are ways to lose games – although you still don’t get points either way – and I would have been proud to play in that Motherwell team today.”
Next up for Motherwell will be a trip to Aberdeen on 19 November but before that there will be time for some rest and recuperation.
