We lost the relegation battle and are destined to finish bottom of the league. Quite frankly, we deserve to go down. Over the course of the season we have been the worse team – and when you consider some of the dross that has beaten us this year, we really are appallingly bad.
However, Falkirk have not made a convincing case to get themselves promoted. It is clear they do not have an SPL compliant stadium and they missed the deadline to have one. After numerous extensions, they still do not appear to have guaranteed first rights to New Broomfield – a ground which, if rumours are to be believed, does not have a safety certificate for 10,000 seats. All the media people who are supposedly in the know are adamant Falkirk won’t be coming up and there is a story which says this vote is a mere formality, with the outcome likely to be in our favour.
Of course, it is not as simple as that. Some clubs are said to be concerned about the image of the league (ha!) if there was no relegation. Whether this means they are compared to rip up the rules they agreed to remains unclear. The other interesting thing is that we are now the only club who can go down. While Dundee United have always been vociferous with their views against Falkirk, it was assumed that Dundee and Aberdeen would look at their away ends and vote to protect them. Will they do the same now?
