Barron Leaves Fir Park - Update

Was he offered a new contract on reduced terms? Was he simply told that his services were no longer required? Whatever the background, the net effect to the club’s finances will be that the outgoings will be reduced. The administrator suggested last week that although the club’s finances were almost in balance there remained a need for some ‘fine tuning’. This looks like the last piece in Byan Jackson’s jigsaw and the club should be able to run for the rest of the season in a healthy trading position.

Alasdair Barron has been at the club for years and it is safe to say that his relationship with the ‘Well community has been mixed. While he was very efficient at increasing the clubs revenue from off field activities (the income from the Centenary and Cooper suites has risen sharply), he had a style that, at times, seemed to be arrogant and confrontational.

His ‘public face’ was that of the austere businessman rather than the football fan but many who have had personal dealings with the General Manager were impressed with his helpful and courteous manner. In recent times played a key part in setting up the ‘Well Worth Saving campaign and his efforts in that area should not be forgotten.

We wish him good fortune in his next venture.

The administrator, Bryan Jackson, will appoint our next club secretary and it will be interesting to see what kind of person he chooses. Will it be a football administrator (in the manner of Alan Dick) or someone with a more ‘business’ background?

We’ll wait and see.

Update
Speaking via a press release (now on the Official Site) Alisdair said: “The last four years have been frantic and the last six months, a whirlwind. I have decided it is time for a bit of a rest to allow me to concentrate on other activities, particularly my chairmanship of the Trustees of Children in Distress, an organisation which is also going through radical change.

“I have enjoyed every minute of the job as general manager at Motherwell and am delighted to continue making a contribution to the running of the club at Board level. I look forward to spending Saturday afternoons at Fir Park without having to look over my shoulder to ensure everything is going smoothly.”
