The notice of a 'precautionary inspection' which appeared on the official site on Friday afternoon only re-enforced what many expected. We are told that the pitch now has a 'bubble' to afford protection. It's hard to understand how covering a sodden pitch could help it dry out.

Those who use the state of our pitch as an argument in favour summer football might care to note that we are now in the middle of March and the danger of snow and ice has long passed. Blocked or collapsed drains and extraordinary amounts of rain happen from time to time and we have to try to cope. We need to know if the club could have done any more to ensure that the park was up to standard.
Meanwhile fans of Motherwell and Celtic will have to find an alternative amusement for yet another Saturday without football.
