The turnaround in the club’s fortunes (on and off the park) since the black day in April 2002 has been dramatic. Not only have we found a management team able to produce a squad based on local talent and at little cost but we have been able to take advantage of the benefit of administration to enter a period of trading which is free of debt.
There were several enquiries about the purchase of the club during Bryan Jackson’s spell as administrator but they came to nought for a variety of reasons.
The fact remains that investment in Scottish football is a huge financial risk. Very deep pockets are needed. The heart has to rule the head.
The latest hint of a bid has a familiar ring. Buy the club, sell off the ground to a developer and move to a new build in the reclaimed Ravenscraig site (or in this case Dalziel Park) and presumably move further up the SPL!
It has to be remembered that our current owner is a successful businessman quite capable of making those changes himself if he felt that it would benefit the club (or if it would reduce his substantial losses). Meanwhile the club is said to have acknowledged that an expression of interest has been received.
Don’t hold your breath…..
