Aberdeen Preview

Aberdeen will be a tough proposition as they have a good young team who recently hammered Dunfermline 3-1. Their confidence may have been boosted by their excellent and oh so unlucky performance in Berlin on Tuesday. Alternatively, will the energy sapping 90 minutes take its toll? Can they get their heads up after losing in such a demoralising fashion?

Captain Scott to return?
It is also important that we do not panic about failing to win in the last three league games. The team under-performs when they are nervous and look their best when playing passing attacking football. McFadden has now scored four goals in his last five games and will be aware that an impressive display may earn him a start for Scotland against Iceland. Stephen Pearson looked fully fit last week and if the Dons defence pays too much attention to Faddy, he will be able to capitalise on the space.

On the injury front, Scott Leitch and Daniel Sengewald are supposedly fit for selection. It would be a harsh decision to drop any of the midfield, even to make room for the captain. It might be that Derek Adams is the unlucky man yet again as Steven Ferguson did more than enough to retain his place up front. Sengewald may be fit, but it will be a travesty if Kaiser Corrigan is moved from the centre of defence.

Eric Deloumeaux will be making his first appearance against Motherwell and it while he does not deserve a hero’s welcome, he should not receive the treatment dished out to some ex-stars. It looks as though Eric Del will be playing in midfield although with Kevin McNaughton missing, it’s conceivable he could be at the back.

Aberdeen at home last season heralded the arrival of James McFadden in Scottish football when he came off the bench to score the winner with a sensational header. McFadden might not find the net this time but he will be the inspiration once again as we snatch a dramatic 2-1 win.
