Aberdeen Preview

Everyone accepts that the win on Saturday was not achieved in the best of styles. There we few goalmouth incidents and not a lot in the way of flowing football. However there was plenty of honest effort and determination on show and the performance restored confidence after the debacle at Livingston.

Scott McDonald got his first start and he grabbed the chance to impress. His sharp bursts of pace, quick turns and lower body strength allowed him to compliment Clarkson’s endless running. Surely he has earned the right to start again. At the other end of the team Gordon Marshall impressed. He was rarely troubled by the Killie attack in the way of direct shots but he commanded his box well and caught or punched several dangerous looking crosses.

Aberdeen had a good weekend too, they put two past Dunfermline with goals from McGuire and Booth. Their incentive is that a point will allow them to leapfrog Kilmarnock and their away record shows only two defeats in the last six games on the road.

While a repeat of the famous 5-6 scoreline of October 2000 is unlikely the crowd can anticipate a few goals. The last 0-0 between the teams was in 1997.

Our defence have tasted the first clean sheet of the season at Fir Park and no doubt they celebrated. There’s no reason why they cannot repeat the feat on Tuesday and aided by a couple from the forwards we can be 2-0 winners.
