While Aberdeen were getting thumped at Tynecastle, Motherwell were celebrating the second home win of the season and hoping that the win would signal an end to the indifferent form at Fir Park. Craig Brown was bemoaning his team’s inability to take their chances and Stuart McCall was delighted to see the “monkey off our back with the home form”.
Had we held on for one minute more in Aberdeen this game would not be needed but the Dons took their last gasp lifeline. They’ll be hoping for a repeat of last season’s quarter final when Fallon’s double ended our campaign. The Motherwell team failed to turn up on that occasion and that should spur them to give of their best this time.
Last season's cup clash
McCall reported that a few of our players suffered knocks on Saturday and we’ll need to hope that the magic sponge can restore them to match fitness before kick-off. Higdon was on the receiving end of a few strong challenges and had to be subbed because of a troublesome knee. It will be a big boost if we can select our strongest eleven.
Brown made lots of his injury list before the first game and he’ll be able to turn out a stronger team for this replay. But we can take heart that our results against our former manager have, for the most part, been excellent.
The clubs have agreed on sensible prices for this game, £12 for adults and £6 for concessions. That should ensure a decent pay at the gate attendance and when combined with our season ticket holders there’s every reason to expect a big game atmosphere under the lights.
Let’s hope the home hoodoo is consigned to the dustbin of history and that we can look forwardto the quarter final against Hibs with a 2-1 win.
