Two days after our Champions League exit Motherwell were drawn against Levante. A win would lead to the riches of the group stages but few expected us to succeed.
It came as a bit of a surprise to learn that this was to be the Spanish team's first match in a European competition, however, any psychological boost that offered was outweight by a look at their line up. The small clutch of away fans who occupied a few rows at the edge of the South Stand
The task facing the team was to keep the tie alive for the second leg. Many of those who had been to Athens had already made arrangements to travel to Valencia.
It was a measure of our familiarity with Europa Leage games in recent years and of the proximity to the Champions League excitement that the level of anticipation for this game was fairly low key. The club played its part by keeping ticket prices down and around 6,000 Motherwell fans responded.
